Support Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Join the Knights of Columbus Council 4922 in advocating for children in crisis in our community. Due to the impact of the recent pandemic, children and families are facing more hardships than ever before, from income reduction or job loss to reduced socialization and increased anxiety. To make matters worse, certain pediatric mental health inpatient centers in our region have shifted their focus to treating adults, causing many families to come to CHOC in desperation for resources.
CHOC is spearheading a countywide initiative to break the stigma surrounding pediatric mental illness and expand much-needed services. Half of children with symptoms of mental health disorders have conditions that cause significant impairment in daily life. In Orange County, 20 percent of youth reported needing help for mental health problems, while less than a third received that help.
