Your Dollars At Work

Autism

The Thompson Autism Center at CHOC has leading-edge programs that give children on the autism spectrum the tools they need to become thriving adults. The Center is devoted to evaluating children as early as possible; engaging children whose behaviors diminish quality of life for them and their families; and establishing a long-term support system for children with complex care needs.

Cancer

The Hyundai Cancer Institute at CHOC offers the latest pediatric cancer treatments by nationally recognized medical specialists dedicated to treating each patient’s emotional, spiritual and physical needs. CHOC offers a full spectrum of patient care—from diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning to advanced medical, radiologic and surgical care—in a pediatric-focused, play-based environment.

Child Life

The Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Department at CHOC provides patients and their families with age-appropriate support to help minimize their anxiety and help them understand diagnoses and medical treatments. Pre-surgery preparation, sibling support, grief education and therapeutic medical play are a few of the many ways that child life comforts and strengthens throughout the treatment process. Child life also offers special programs like music therapy, pet therapy and entertainment from Seacrest Studios so that kids can still be kids.

CHOC Mission

CHOC at Mission Hospital is a separately licensed 54-bed “hospital within a hospital” on the fifth floor of Mission Hospital. It is the only children’s hospital in South Orange County, the surrounding coastal areas and north San Diego County. Inside its doors, you’ll find a modern facility with comprehensive services, individualized care and personal attention for patients ranging from newborns to young adults.

Greatest Needs

At CHOC no child is ever turned away. We provided over $47 MM in uncompensated care to kids. We also assist families with financial relief and insurance planning, ensuring that the care and equipment their child needs are covered. With the generosity of our supporters, CHOC has the opportunity and the flexibility to give every patient their best chance to heal.

Heart

The CHOC Heart Institute provides leading-edge cardiodiagnostic services for children with heart-related problems. CHOC provides children and families with personalized treatment plans and the peace of mind that comes from being treated by some of the country’s most renowned pediatric cardiology experts.

Mental Health

CHOC is home to Orange County’s only mental health inpatient center that serves children ages three to seventeen. The Center is the first of its kind in Southern California, and in its first year has already served over 1,200 children in need of specialized care. CHOC also offers an intensive outpatient program to help diagnose and treat mental health challenges in children.

Neonatal

CHOC's neonatal program is dedicated to helping babies and their families stay happy and healthy from the very beginning of life. Providing highly customized care, special units within our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) include the small baby unit, the surgical NICU, the neurocritical NICU and the cardiac NICU. With a team of board-certified neonatologists and specialized units, no one on the West Coast is more dedicated to giving newborns a healthy start.

Neuroscience

Recognized as one of the leading pediatric programs in the nation, the CHOC Neuroscience Institute provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, treatment options and surgical care for children and adolescents with complex neurological conditions. At the forefront of diagnosis and treatment, our multidisciplinary teams care for patients with all pediatric neurological disorders.

Orthopaedic

From broken bones to serious musculoskeletal disorders and beyond, CHOC cares for children with all types of orthopaedic needs. Our team provides comprehensive treatment of complex orthopaedic conditions in children, from infancy through adolescence. All services, from technologically advanced diagnostic evaluation to surgical care, are provided within one convenient, pediatric-focused environment.

Providence Speech and Hearing

CHOC’s merger with Providence Speech and Hearing Center is based on our mutual interest in offering high-quality care. We share a concern for the growing prevalence of speech and hearing problems, which can significantly impact both physical and emotional well-being. Being one of the only centers of its kind in Southern California, we are elevating care to new heights in comprehensive, multidisciplinary audiology, speech, language and occupational therapy services.

Research

At CHOC, we understand the life-saving power of innovative research. That’s why our Research Institute has over 350 studies in more than 30 specialties to provide children with access to leading-edge treatments. Our scientists translate the latest advances in clinical trials to bring hope to patients with rare conditions or conditions not responding to traditional treatments.
