Welcome to the Ethan & Choco’s Book Club (ECBC) fundraiser, which provides high-quality books and literacy experiences for CHOC patients. Most immediately, funds will go towards the creation and maintenance of the Ethan & Choco’s Book Nook in outpatient oncology, with a variety of literature types to meet the diverse ages and interests of patients. After initial furniture costs, sustaining this space will require approximately $5K per month. Additional Ethan & Choco's Book Nooks will also be created on the inpatient side -- on the oncology floor and in the teen room.

ECBC was a 501(c)3 founded by CHOC leukemia patient Ethan when he noticed that books and reading were missing from patients' hospital experience, especially the oncology patients on the 5th floor. From 2015-2025, ECBC provided bedside reading in patient rooms and numerous book gifting programs -- amounting to more than 5600 bedside reading sessions and more than 40,000 new books gifted. Upon ECBC’s dissolution, this fundraiser was initiated to continue the mission of ECBC by providing literacy support that promotes cognitive health, an essential part of thrivership that is vital for defending childhood.
