By making a contribution to this fundraising page and sharing this page with your family and friends, every dollar raised will advance CHOC's ability to provide family centered care at the Pomona Pediatrics Clinic through our reading program. CHOC’s Reach Out and Read program is implemented through our primary care clinics. It currently focuses on children from birth to five years old and is integrated into families’ well-child visit. During the well-child visit, the parent or caregiver learns about the importance of reading to children and a “prescription” is written into their pediatric care. CHOC providers redefine reading for parents as not only an educational tool but also as a vehicle for language rich family interactions that impact the literal hardwiring of their children’s brains. The positive impacts of Reach Out and Read are well-documented and far reaching, including more frequent reading at home, accelerated vocabulary and critical brain stimulation.
