Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, children and families are facing more hardships than ever before, from income reduction or job loss to reduced socialization and increased anxiety. To make matters worse, certain pediatric mental health inpatient centers in our region have shifted their focus to treating adults with COVID-19, causing many families to come to CHOC in desperation for resources.
CHOC is spearheading a countywide initiative to break the stigma surrounding pediatric mental illness and expand much-needed services. Half of children with symptoms of mental health disorders have conditions that cause significant impairment in daily life. In Orange County, 20 percent of youth reported needing help for mental health problems, while less than a third received that help.
Supporting CHOC’s Mental Health Initiative increases resources for programs like:
- The Cherese Mari Laulhere Mental Health Inpatient Center
- The Intensive Outpatient Program at CHOC
- Mental health screening expansion and access to primary care in CHOC specialty clinics
As a nonprofit organization, CHOC relies on our community support to continue providing vital care. Together, we can offer urgently needed mental health services to children and families during the most difficult time in their lives. Every dollar raised will advance CHOC's role in tackling the pediatric mental health crisis. Thank you for your generous support.
